Dojo Information

Dojo

The Dojo itself has a Tatami (matted) area which is about 120 square metres and is set on a sprung floor. The ceilings are high enough to allow indoor weapons practice, and there is also an outdoor area that can be used for weapons training in fair weather.
Instruction involves a complete Aikido curriculum that incorporates body, staff and sword techniques for the study of the inter-related principles of Takemusu Aiki.

Takemusu Aiki

Takemusu Aiki is the method of Aikido study taught in this Dojo. In this training method, the student practises both empty-hand and weapons techniques in order to learn and understand the basic principles common to all the Japanese Martial Arts.
To allow for a rational progression in technique, study is undertaken at different levels that focus on both the physical and the psychological aspects of training. It is this development of Aiki principles that gives rise to the unlimited, applied movements of Aikido.

Affiliation

The Dojo is independent and is affiliated directly with the Aikido Dojo Stockholm. It is the only authorised Dojo in the British Isles representing the Tomita Academy.
It is registered as a member of NAKMAS (National Governing Body) in the UK, and all teaching staff have been Dan (black belt) graded by Tomita Sensei and are NAKMAS registered instructors who have been CRB cleared and are fully qualified and insured.
All Dan level gradings are registered and ratified within NAKMAS.
NAKMAS is BSI Registered and Quality Assured to 'BS EN ISO 9001:2000'.
