Training Background
Chris Tozer began practising Aikido in 1983.
From 1983 - 1992 he practised in various English, Italian and French clubs as well as with many of the Japanese teachers sent abroad to teach Aikido.
He studied as a live-in student at Aikido of San Leandro under the tutelage of Pat Hendricks Sensei and was awarded instructor certification in Aiki-Ken and Aiki-Jo by the late Morihiro Saito Sensei.
In 1991 he met and began to study under his current teacher, Takeji Tomita Sensei (Saito Sensei's first uchi-deshi and at that time, his European representative).
He founded Aikido Dojo Camberley in 1992 and upon the creation of the Tomita Academy that same year, decided to return completely to the basics and study Tomita Sensei's method of training exclusively.
He is 4th Dan, Takemusu Aiki and all his certification has been conferred directly by Tomita Sensei. He is also registered with both the Aikikai Honbu Dojo in Tokyo and the IAF, International Aikido Federation.
Tomita Academy
He has studied as a private student of Tomita Sensei at his Dojo in Stockholm over several visits, and has acted as his interpreter and assistant at numerous seminars and demonstrations both in the UK and throughout Europe.
He continues to travel on a regular basis every year to study with his teacher and also has close links with Emidio Lezza, senior representative of the Tomita Academy based in Italy.
In 1995 he was nominated as the representative in Great Britain for the Takemusu Aiki Tomita Academy and holds a full teaching licence from his teacher to instruct his training method.
NAKMAS
He is fully qualified and registered within NAKMAS (National Governing Body) as a Senior Instructor and Examiner in Aikido.
In 2002 he created Takemusu Aiki Europe Tomita Academy Great Britain (TAETAGB) to further promote what he considers to be the correct research and practice of Japanese Budo, as modern-day practice continues to deviate further and further from the original intention and training methods of the founding warrior class.
TAETAGB is fully recognised member of NAKMAS and continues its activities with the aim of preserving and researching these methods of training and development now taught by Tomita Sensei.
In his capacity as instructor and teacher, Chris Tozer continues to study and train on a daily basis.
