Aikido

Aikido is a modern Japanese Budo, or 'Martial Way', but its training methods come to us from those of the Samurai, or warrior class.
Since it was created by the Founder, Morihei Ueshiba (1883-1969), it has been passed down in its original rigorous forms, losing none of its physical, mental and spiritual potential. The practice of Aikido enables the student to educate and co-ordinate the whole body perfectly (both physically and mentally) through the repetitive practice of codified techniques.
Attempting definitions as to what Aikido actually is can be misleading, simply because the English language lacks the terms to convey the sense of the Japanese characters. The easiest way to explain and understand the concept of Aikido is through the technical aspects of its practice in the Dojo.
